W e examined the literature for reports of sex differences on the Edwards Personal Preference Schedule (EPPS). From Table 1, it is apparent that across normal and psychiatric populations, males tend characteristically, i.e., in at least six of the nine reported samples, to score significantly higher than females on EPPS variables of Achievement, Dominance, and Aggression and consistently lower than females on Affiliation, Succorance, and Nurmrance. Such differences are consistent with theoretical expectations of male-female differences, and, as such lend support for the instrument's face-validity
