This paper tests the association of personal orientation and the athletic structure, sex and race. The data presented in this study were obtained from questionnaires administered to 790 students attending public educational institutions in a South Florida county during the spring of 1984. The data demonstrated that there are no significant differences in personal orientation between respondents that participated in the formal athletic structure and those who had not. In addition, sex proved to be a significant variable associated with personal orientation but the effects of race were nonsignificant
