Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has become a great stressor to humankind worldwide. Social support is very important as a buffer against stress; thus, we aimed to develop and examine the psychometric properties and factor structure of a Chinese version of the Two-Way Social Support Scale (Two-Way CSSS). We conducted three studies with a total of 463 participants, comprising Chinese undergraduates and, as a comparison group, a sample of six people from Western cultures. The results show that a two-factor model incorporating receiving support and giving support better explained two-way social support than did the original four-factor model. The convergent, predictive, and incremental validity of the scale Two-Way CSSS were supported. The Two-Way CSSS is a valid tool to simultaneously assess receiving and giving support, providing a tool to guide psychological assistance for those in China stressed by COVID-19
