Section I treats bibliographic sources and the specialized institutions and periodical publications which have appeared in recent years. In section 2, historical-comparative and dialectological research is discussed and the conclusions of these studies are presented in some detail since they strongly challenge many popular notions concerning Andean Ethnohistory. Section 3 is concerned with synchronic descriptive studies, with special emphasis on the dialects of central Peru —those forms of Quechua which had been totally ignored for centuries but which have now been proven to hold the key to an entirely new theory of the evolution of Quechua. Section 4 mentions the few socio and psycholinguistic investigation which have been or are being carried out. Section 5 lists the major pedagogical grammars
