Middle Woodland is the term applied to most cultural complexes which flourished in the Central Plains from 100 BC to AD 500. Related taxa persisted in the west Central Plains until AD 1100. The period is characterized by the first pottery manufactured in the region as well as agricultural experimentation and increased sedentism. This paper provides a descriptive overview of Middle Woodland settlement/subsistence practices, burial customs, and material culture in Nebraska. A model of the emergence, development, and replacement of Middle Woodland in the region is also offered
