Se revisa conjuntamente la evidencia paleoambiental de Sudamérica y se evalúa el valor predictivo de los modelos oceánico-atmosféricos, propuestos en la literatura para explicar cambios regionales de vegetación durante el último ciclo glacial-postglacial. Se interpretan climáticamente los grandes cambios de vegetación documentados en el registro palcoambiental de Sudamérica, en base con la proposición de tres hipotéticos estados oceánico-atmosfericos que difieren entre sí en: 1) vigor y simetría de los Anticiclones del Pacífico y del Atlántico sur y 2) posiciones de las bandas atlántica y pacífica de la Convergencia Intertropical
