In May 1983, a stunningly comprehensive exhibition of the Photo-Secession opened at the Currier Gallery of Art in Manchester, New Hampshire. Jointly curated by Robert Doty, Director of the Currier Gallery, and Dr William Innes Homer of the University of Delaware, the exhibition was a rare opportunity to study the lesser-known Pictorialists in the context of the more famous masters like Stieglitz, Clarence White, Alvin Langdon Coburn, Edward Steichen, Gertrude Käsebier, Frank Eugene, Joseph Keiley, Annie Brigman, and George Seeley. The large platinum prints, gum bichromates, and photogravures revealed a decorative wisdom and a striking unanimity of artistic vision which are not as readily observed in the small plates of Camera Work
