This study was conducted as a preliminary step in an investigation of the relationship between the amount of information on a display and the ability of the reader to process this information accurately during a map reading. A visual-choice task simulating map reading was devised to measure the accuracy of response to different amounts of information at specific distances across the visual field. The results of the experiment indicate that performance of the task was influenced by the amount of information and the acuity limitations of the eye. The results of the experiment suggest that value estimation may be an extremely strenuous information processing task
