The nutritional status of the host may modify the natural history of a tumour, and, conversely, a tumour may derange the metabolism of the host because of its own requirements for nutrients. Certain types of cancer tend to occur more frequently in obese subjects. General or specific dietary deficiencies tend to reduce the rate of tumour growth. Tumours do, however, often result in loss of body protein. The influence of the fat content of the diet in the genesis of certain types of cancer is discussed, the inter‐relationships of the vitamins, and of mineral metabolism to the growth of cancers is reviewed
