Ce n'est certes pas dans nos usages de rendre compte d'un roman, américain de surcroît. Mais il s'agit d'un Bildungsroman, un travail d'éducation et d'initiation, qui a pour nous l'intérêt de se dérouler en Afrique de l'Ouest francophone. Bundu signifie en langue songhay « bois sculpté ».Le titre du livre se réfère à une galerie d'art africain, supposée gérée à New-York en 1998 par un anthropologue de 52 ans, David Lyons, et par sa compagne, Elli, d'origine libanaise, par ailleurs consultante
