In this article, the term "Kawsqar" is examined with regard to some issues that not only deal with lexicography or linguistics but also with Chilean law and the relationships between the members of the communities that bear this name. At the same time other names given to this ethnic group are studied, which have undergone diverse interpretations over the course of time
