Research Article| July 01 2016 The Singing Festivals of German Americans, 1849–1914 Heike Bungert Heike Bungert Heike Bungert is professor of North American history at the University of Muenster. She earned her M.A. from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, her Ph.D. from the University of Tuebingen (published as a book, Das Nationalkomitee und der Westen: Das NKFD und die Freien Deutschen Bewegungen aus der Sicht der Westalliierten, 1934–1948 [Stuttgart: Steiner, 1997]), and her habilitation (second dissertation) at the University of Cologne (Festive Culture and Memory: The Construction of a German-American Ethnicity, 1848–1914 [Paderborn: Schöning, forthcoming in 2016]). She has published on German American political and cultural relations, ethnic and migration history, ethnohistory, history and film, university history, and the history of religion.
