Étude comparative des articles politiques incriminés par l'abbé Barruel dans les éditions de Paris, Genève et Yverdon

Christian and Sylviane Albertin: A Comparison of the political articles criticized by Barruel in the Paris, Yverdon and Geneva editions. A page of Barruel's Mémoires pour servir à l'histoire du jacobinisme accuses the Encyclopaedists of being among the precursors of the Jacobins, while carefully distinguishing the first edition of the Encyclopédie and that of Yverdon from that of Geneva. He considers the first editions to be much less daring politically, for reasons of prudence, while in the latter he particularly incriminates droit des gens, Epicuriens and Eclectiques as full of anti-monarchical sophisms. We here consider, by means of a comparative analysis of these articles, how far Barruel's opinion is justified and what could have led him to this opinion
