Zajas discusses the selection and interpretation of documents in the context of the \nliterary archive, which emerged as an institution at the end of the nineteenth century. \nFirst he examines the internal and external factors that impact the shape of the author’s \nestate. Next he analyses the transposition of the publisher’s archive to the form of the \nliterary archive. In the conclusion he highlights three levels of interpretive interventions \nthat take place in the archive. An awareness of their scope is key especially for the \nsociology of literature
