How am I thinking anthropologically? This question was persistent and perplexing for me as I hammered out what it means to be an anthropologist working in public health. In this paper, I describe some challenges and opportunities that advanced my anthropological practice while working in public health settings. The lessons I gathered from my personal and professional journey formed the basis of a strategy I call “my cognitive anthropological toolkit.” I close this paper with suggestions for how a cognitive toolkit model can advance educational activities for present and future applied anthropologists
