Although I remain an intrigued participant-observer of the Washington scene, pressing obligations prompted my decision to withdraw from the editorship of Washington Watch with this issue. Initiating this column, with support from WAPA and the editor of P A, has been a rewarding experience that produced greater understanding of policy processes and actors, and appreciation of the potential for effective anthropological involvement in policy scenarios. Hopefully, something of that experience was communicated to you. Responsibility for the column now rests in the capable hands of Terry West, anthropologist with the Forest Service
