This paper examines the archival evidence for a collection of paintings owned by a Roman bishop and offered on two separate occasions to AlberchtV.Duke of Bavaria. Although consisiting largelyof copies after original works, in itself a noteworthy fact,Gerolamo Garimberto claimed to own a number of unique orginals, the earliest picture by Parmigianno and a self portrait of Sofonisba Anguissola. While it is possible to say something about the dispersal of Garimberto's notable collection of antiquities afterhis death in 1575, the fate of his pinacoteca remains to be determained.
