This essay analyzes the use of satellites in the contemporary domination of terrestrial space. Through case studies such as Palestine, Lebanon, the Mexico–United States border, and Europe’s borders with the African continent, I examine how military remote sensing has become a key technology for territorial control in the service of capital. I pose three fundamental questions: Who owns and controls satellite data? How is this data used in contexts of war and surveillance? And what alternative uses could foster a satellite-based technology oriented toward the common good? From a critical perspective, the article explores the fundamental contradiction in the use of satellite technology: while it is employed as a tool of surveillance, repression, and territorial control in the context of wars against the poor, it can also be used to support human rights advocacy, ecosystems monitoring, and environmental justice
