This book provides an overview and astute analyses of the House of Representatives Election (General Election) in Japan held on 16 December 2012. The editors and authors are to be commended for publishing it in such a timely manner; the election was held in December 2012 and yet this book appeared on the market by the autumn of 2013, just 10 months later. Although this book is not well suited to novices of Japanese politics or election studies, it will be loved by experts of Japanese politics and electoral studies specialists. At the same time, this book will be very useful for graduate students researching Japanese politics. Although the book is effective in describing a wide range of topics related to contemporary electoral politics in Japan, given the complicated nature of Japanese politics over the last two decades, the book would not be recommended reading for younger students with little familiarity with either election studies or Japanese politics
