The objective of this study is to examine the effects of race gender and family structure on attitude toward coitus and peer and parent-guardian-expectations regarding coitus among adolescents. The 1998 Alabama Adolescent Survey was used to collect data. Respondents included 2146 9th and 10th grade students who attended public high schools in Alabama. MANOVA analyses indicated significant main and interactive effects of gender race and family structure on attitude toward coitus and parent-guardian expectation regarding coitus. The interactive nature of the independent variables highlighted a complex relationship between family structure ethnicity gender and attitude toward coitus and parent-guardian expectations. Implications for intervention are presented. (authors)
