El Salvador is challenged by having the highest rate of homicides of women in the world, with 14/100,000 in 2017 Femicide is also the highest in the world and increased from 111 in 2013 to 348 in 2017 and 383 in 2018 (ORMUSO, n.d.). Whereas, between 2001 and 2011 the overall homicide rate doubled, the rate of murders of women increased five-fold (Boerman and Knapp, 2017: 3). Moreover, 428 women disappeared in the first nine months of 2018 According to the 2017 National Survey of Violence Against Women, 67 out of every 100 women suffered violence in their lives and 34 of every 100 experienced violence in the last 12 months (Huttner, 2020). Impunity for perpetrators is above 90 per cent, so women victims rarely get justice (Brigada, 2016
