Une lecture attentive de deux photographies aériennes datant de l’époque du Mandat français permet de repérer la trace claire d’une structure ovale dans le quartier nord-est de la ville antique de Palmyre, non loin de l’actuel musée. La comparaison avec d’autres monuments de ce type laisse envisager qu’il s’agit bien d’un amphithéâtre, ce qu’une prospection magnétique et des sondages ultérieurs pourraient confirmer
