Two series of lintels with inscriptions reveal the existence of individual monastic cells which were built in 600 at Deir el-Ferdis and, around the same period, at Elbi. Their study provides clues about these communities, and the analysis of the architectural elements allows to reconsider the architecture of those monasteries and the organisation of monastic life in central Syria. Moreover an epigraphical appendix presents the other inscriptions discovered during the survey of these villages
