This article investigates the reception of Dante's Convivio in Italy between c. 1334 and 1570. It gives an account of the presence of the treatise in the Trecento tradition of Dante commentary and in a variety of other Trecento and Quattrocento writings. It then pays particular attention to the printed editions of the treatise and their use by the major sixteenth-century Dante commentators and public readers of the poem (Alessandro Vellutello, Giovan Battista Gelli, Bernardino Daniello, Lodovico Castelvetro). The article explores both the Florentine and extra-Florentine reception of the treatise, the impact of its material form upon reading styles, and its place as a privileged interpretive key to the Comedy in sixteenth-century Dante criticism. Keywords: DANTE'S RECEPTIONCONVIVIODANTE COMMENTARYSIXTEENTH-CENTURY INTERPRETATION OF THE COMEDY
