This Calvet collection dates back to the 18th century (which is quite rare in a district museum such as Avignon). Esprit Calvet (1728-1810) creator of the foundation which bears his name, and member of many scholar societies had relationships with the most famous antique dealers of his time, and more particularly the Count of Caylus and the Abbot of Sade. His cluster of correspondents kept him aware of the findings which happened and allowed him to buy archeological objects among which glass issued mainly from graves. In the 19th century, the museum organized under the state's supervision excavations in Vaison-la-Romaine (1838-1842) and in Apt (1840-1842) ; it received gifts, brought some objects, (more especially glass) and exchanged others (glass basket in 1840). There are over 30 urns, unguent bottles, small bottles and table crockery coming mainly from the Vaucluse. Few objects bought or exchanged come from Italy (Capoua) or the Middle-East (Tyre)
