This paper seeks to identify the nature of a constitution called 'imamic' by al-Fārābī in one of his lost works, according to Ibn Bāgga and Ibn Rušd. It argues that this constitution was simply the virtuous regime under a different name. Ibn Rušd, who identifies is it in somewhat puzzling terms, must have worked with corrupt version of al-Fārābī's passage. Already Todros Todrosi, who translated Ibn Rušd into Hebrew in the fourteenth century, tried to emend it. What follows is another attempt at the same
