Brasidas and Thucydides

Brasidas figure très souvent dans chez l’historien Thucydide. Thucydide cite son nom 94 fois (Périclès 24 fois) en quatre livres, et le représente fort des succès militaires d’un chef et d’un combattant. Cet article examine l’image de Brasidas que Thucydide crée pour le lecteur et cherche à la comprendre dans son contexte historique et littéraire. L’article arrive à la conclusion que la reconnaissance de Brasidas en tant que héro à Amphipolis et Delphes après sa mort trouve un reflet dans le portrait héroïque qu’en fait Thucydide. De plus, l’historien, en exil après avoir été vaincu par Brasidas, évoque en partie sa propre réputation en développant l’ aristeia de son héros
