This article transcribes and places in their context seven documents, all but one being unpublished, relating to George Henry Lewes (1817–1878) the eminent Victorian writer and partner of George Eliot. Six of the documents are hitherto unpublished and five are in Lewes’s hand. Four are letters written by Lewes to different correspondents, and one is a dramatic fragment written by him. The first of the other two documents is a scientific note from Lewes on the subject of the experiments of von Recklingshausen with the blood and republished for the first time since 1879. The second is a note in the hand of John Walter Cross on the back of a calling card written to Lewes and George Eliot: Cross subsequently married Eliot on 6 May 1880
