England during more than three centuries. These data are based on the available marriage statistics and are compared with the totals Wrigley and Schofield published for this same period in 1981. Testing both series lead to the conclusion that the homeostatic totals, which were calculated according to a simple formula, are clearly more accurate than the older series. The homeostatic statistics also give a more clear delineation of the English demographic and economic situation of the period
