I take up the issue of how Stephen Mitchell's adherence to an objectivist view in the 1978 and 1981 papers influenced his vision of how prevalent homophobia was in psychoanalysis. I then consider how an examination of homophobia in psychoanalysis can help us see how psychoanalysts function as cultural police
