This article explores the trauma experienced by a family during the bloody Russian Bolshevik Revolution and the family's terror-driven flight from their homeland. The transgenerational implications of devastating personal losses, incurred in the midst of catastrophic temporal and spatial disruptions, are carried by various family members in their conflicted relationship to time. Struggles to stop or to save time are imbued with nostalgia for a pretraumatic history. Nostalgia is considered alternately as a disturbance in mourning and a conduit for reclaiming history. The silence surrounding a relative's terrible secret is explored as it is enacted by her descendants
