This article reviews and critiques all of the recent outcome research on brief intensive family preservation services designed to serve a population at imminent risk. To complete a comprehensive review, the authors examined program evaluation efforts as well as quasi-experimental and experimental designs. Characteristics of the subjects, research designs, outcome measures, features of the family preservation services, and major findings are considered. Implications for future research on family preservation services are discussed.
