Abstract: Gender And Socio-Spatial Environment: Care Needs In Old Age As A Socio-Spatial Challenge Gender inequalities in old age exist in the context of caregiving, they are subject to the socio-spatial environment. Socioeconomic and sociocultural disadvantages lead to earlier and more severe health-related impairments in old age. These interact with precarious life conditions, thereby increasing the risk of socio-spatial exclusion. Older people with mobility restrictions rely on inclusive and diversity-friendly neighbourhoods to maintain social participation. The authors discuss the interactions between gender, ethnicity, impairments and sexual orientation and their effects on older people, their care needs and the socio-spatial environment. A summary of the challenges and possibilities for neighbourhoods seeking to address issues of gender and diversity is presented
