The objective of this systematic review was to analyze empirical studies that understand the relationship between green environments and mental health, focusing on the person-environment relationship. Therefore, we sought to answer the question: “what is the relationship between the person-environment variables in empirical studies, considering the different theoretical approaches, the different methodological instruments used?”. The databases chosen for the review were Psycinfo, Pubmed, Scopus and Web of Science. Nineteen articles were selected, which were analyzed in full and described in terms of the number of participants, the method, the instruments used and other variables measured. The following keywords and combinations were used: “mental health” and “restorative environments”. The results point to a significant relationship between the variables. It is noteworthy that thirteen articles describe the relationship of restorative environments with mental health, associating the promotion of quality of life and reduction of stress levels and mental fatigue. The bidirectional relationships between green environments and direct stress reduction were addressed in only three articles and the scarcity of studies in this direction is questioned
