This article is based on the relationship between Brazilian Christian churches and the dictatorship that began in 1964. We revisit this historical period through a bibliographical review, analyzing the relationships between missionaries and churches and the pre-coup movement, where communism was the great evil to be combated, aligning North American interests with the preaching of Brazilian Protestant and Evangelical churches. These churches also promoted support for the regime of exception, seeking to leverage this communion to increase their influence in the country. While also considering the reaction of Catholics, we emphasize the resistance of Protestant and Evangelical individuals, who opposed their denominations and challenged the regime. Ultimately, the historical review proposed here is not exhaustive, but seeks to contribute to discussions on the political participation of Brazilian churches and Protestants during the dictatorship, both in cooperation and in resistance
