The main objective of this article is to analyse the role of foreign capital in the development of the drinking water supply and management system in the province of Cádiz (Andalusia, Spain). The evolution experienced in this sector is largely due to the investments and improvements carried out by foreign capital companies, which motivates a detailed analysis of them. To this end, primary and secondary sources are used. The former include the information on utility companies kept in the historical archives of municipalities and provinces. In addition, this information will be supplemented with information from the press of the time and the existing bibliography on the subject. All this will be used to provide a historical approach to the urban development of the region and the role played by the improvement of the utility networks
