Much research on the topic of police fairness focuses on a general concept of fairness. However, it has been suggested that when individuals are asked how they feel about police overall, they base their answers on specific incidents (J. Frank, B. Smith, & K. Novak, 2005). The current study examines predictors of the perception of police fairness during the most recent incident of police contact. Results indicate that when individuals are asked to consider specific incidents of police arrest or questioning that they personally experienced, they appear to be very rational in their reason for perceiving that the police acted unfairly
