In the va rious disciplines comprising the socalled health field, we observe timid attempts at conceptually constructing the " h e a l t h" object (Cze resnia, 1999: Levine, 1995), in contra s t with the extensive efforts at developing biomedical disease models (Abed, 1993; Be r l i n g u e r, 1988; Mu r p h y, 1965; Prez -Ta m a yo, 1988; Temkin, 1963), emphasizing the individual and sub-individual levels of analysis
