La paleodemografa constituye una lnea de investigacin muchas veces subestimada en los estudios bioarqueolgicos debido a que generalmente los sitios prehistricos carecen de registros escritos que proporcionen informacin precisa de las sociedades que los generaron. Dado el importante nmero de individuos inhumados en el sitio Mdano Petroqumica (n=120) y el breve periodo de ocupacin del mismo (entre 363 y 419 aos AP), la utilizacin de herramientas como las tablas de vida y de distintos ndices paleodemogrficos nos permitir aportar informacin relevante de la dinmica poblacional para el rea de estudio durante el Holoceno Tardo. Las tasas de mortalidad infantil y de fecundidad femenina, junto a otros indicadores, sugieren que se tratara de una poblacin con tendencia hacia el crecimiento. Adems, el anlisis e interpretacin de los resultados obtenidos apoyara el cuadro propuesto por algunos investigadores, en el cual las sociedades de la regin habran experimentado una disminucin de la movilidad residencial, el aumento de la densidad poblacional y la aparicin de reas formales de entierro durante el periodo de contacto hispano-indgena inicial
