The Mackie Expedition, under the auspices of the Royal Society and the conduct of the Rev. John Roscoe, has spent about four months (from the end of February to the end of June, 1920) among the Banyoro, a large and important tribe or rather nation, which occupies the country to the east of Lake Albert in the Uganda Protectorate. The native king took a deep interest in the objects of the Expedition and did all in his power to forward them.Day after day for weeks together he granted Mr. Roscoe an interview of several hours and personally explained to him the secret customs of the tribe and the taboos observed by the kings
