Some argue that a sense of place is a matter of unmediated dwelling while others suggest it is mediated by exchange and power relations. Drawing on a range of ethnographic examples it is argued in this entry that a sense of place is as much about movement, travel, and displacement as it is about rootedness. Through their social relations and capacities, people create a sense of place regardless of where they are located
