Dans certaines comédies attiques, les poètes mobilisent des insultes qui, littéralement, prennent pour cible ceux qui se livrent passivement à la pénétration anale : ils sont ainsi « ceux qui sont large de l’anus », « ceux qui ont l’anus béant » ou encore « ceux qui ont l’anus en forme de citerne ». Il ne s’agit pourtant pas de dénigrer une pratique sexuelle : ces insultes, qui relèvent de ce genre de discours transgressif que les anciens Grecs appellent aischrologia, servent avant tout un discours politique. Au moyen de ces insultes qui visent tantôt les citoyens athéniens ordinaires tantôt des membres de l’élite dirigeante de la cité, les poètes dévoilent et dénoncent certaines formes de la domination des seconds sur les premiers. À terme, il s’agit de rendre au peuple l’autorité que la démocratie lui confie de droit
