Debates surrounding the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) have often centred on the benefits of further regional integration and the accompanying challenges this process faces. While substantial discussion has focused on the politics of regional integration, comparatively little focus has been directed towards the economics of integration. In fact, the experience of the private sector has been almost absent from analysis of the CSME. And yet, the CSME is primarily an economic union. This begs the question, beyond the din of politics, what has been the experience of the private sector over the last quarter of a century since the CSME’s enactment? Has regional integration been a boon for Caribbean manufacturers and how has this process influenced their corporate strategy? This paper will explore the experiences of regional manufacturers to learn whether the CSME has yielded the benefits that were initially promised. In particular, the paper will examine the impact of the CSME’s implementation on Jamaican-based manufacturers
