The World Heritage Site of the ancient city of Tauric Chersonesus and its chora has one of the longest histories of museological practice and heritage protection. Nearly 200 years of archaeological research, combined with over 50 years of legislative initiatives and institutional efforts, culminated in the site’s inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2013. However, the situation changed dramatically following the occupation of Crimea by the Russian Federation. The site is now under serious threat: it is being exploited as a platform for ideological propaganda, and its physical remains are suffering significant damage
