This study aims to test whether the combined method of the historico-geographical and configurational approaches to urban morphology can yield useful insights into urban regeneration policies and strategies, particularly in terms of balancing historical conservation and socio-economic development. The combined method is applied to identify problems and make suggestions for regeneration in the Creative Quarter, Liverpool, UK. The case study demonstrates that it can enhance or improve existing planning and design strategies to achieve policy goals outlined in the local authority’s planning documents. The combined method can also potentially provide an evidence base for regeneration policymaking and contribute to the design stage of the regeneration process
