from linguistic frameworks and is instead based on an inductive analysis of two aesthetic experiences: a novel and an artistic installation. These works were selected inproviding social critique of the suffering experienced by both humans and the natural world. To this end, a narrative and critical review was conducted, contrasting the main linguistic approaches to listening with a discursive analysis of the indexical and ideologicaldimensions of the two aesthetic experiences. These were interpreted through philosophical, anthropological, and psychoanalytic perspectives. The findings challenged the traditional Western approach to listening, which is based on a rational search for meaning. Instead, they suggested that listening constitutes a political and emotional disposition. From this perspective, the listener’s body becomes a resonant chamber hosting the testimonial voices of others and nature, which is understood here as an agent of suffering. This positions listening as a practice that is more rooted in prosody than semantics, and whichdoes not seek meaning, but rather what I call ‘comprehending the talk’
