In Golden Age Spain, blood held great importance as a social marker. The obsession with limpieza de sangre reflected an ideal of aristocratic status, generating crises in gender dynamics. As a powerful cultural agent, blood was often emphasized in literature and legal matters. This study explores its use in judicial processes in early modern Spain and in the works of María de Zayas. Depending on whether it flows or remains static, blood is used to symbolize the gravity of male violence, thus representing a tool for the empowerment of early modern women
