Distributional states of baboon in Ethiopia were reviewed on the basis of the informations obtained through field surveys which were carried out three times in between 1975 to 1979 by the present author and his colleague, and, in consideration of the result of above review and related informations in recent literatures, the maps which were presented already by STARK and FRICK (1958) and OSMAN HILL (1970) to show the distribution of baboons in Ethiopia were revised as shown in Fig. 1.Then, relating to the hybridization which have been observed between Papio anubis and Papio hamadryas in Ethiopia, some general discussions concerning the species problem in primates were added, suggesting that, as far as in the higher primates living in natural conditions, there may be many cases in which the species borders have been kept by genetical factors encouraging behavioral isolation between them, not always depending on reproductive isolation as the result of sterility
