Petroleum oil has been the engine of development in Nigeria since 1958. It has dominated the economy since 1973, providing more than 90% of the total export and 80% of Federal Government revenue. From field experience, the industry also appears to be a bane of the Niger delta environment. Its production processes, waste management and gas disposal are fraught with environmental hazards. There is urgent need to mobilise available techniques to save the region from imminent environmental disaster, especially from gaseous pollutants
