Politicians, scientists, and society are increasingly concerned with global warming and greenhouse gas emissions. Sports also contribute, with football being the most popular. This study, through qualitative research and thematic analysis, explored football’s role in reducing emissions. The researchers used purposeful and snowball sampling to interview 24 experts in sustainable development, environment, and football until saturation. From 125 initial codes, 25 sub-themes and 4 main themes emerged: optimising energy and water, green management, renewable energy use, and education. The study recommends cooperation among clubs, coaches, players, fans, and institutions (e.g. FIFA, continental federations) with international bodies like the UN to cut CO2 and protect the planet
